Chappaqua Children's Book Festival is one of the most popular events for families in Westchester County. So when Westchester Family Magazine published this image representing the festival in the fall of 2019, you can image how I was over the moon!
Dressed as an astronaut and armed with the book "A Kite For Moon" by Jane Yolen and Heidi Stemple, Raffi posed for this picture on my walkway outside my studio in Pleasantville, New York. The book tells a story honoring Neil Armstrong, where a little boy who looks up at the moon, senses the moon is lonely. So he promises to visit one day. As he grows up and learns to do new things, he eventually becomes an astronaut and keeps his promise by visiting his friend the moon.
It is beautifully illustrated by Matt Phelan, so I wanted to create an image to do the book justice. So once I had the picture of Raffi in his costume, I created the rest of the portrait with a bit of photoshop magic.
Location: Pleasantville, New York.
